Viair Compressor Technical Tips

• Always operate compressors below the maximum pressure rating of the compressor according to each compressor's specifications.



• Choose a compressor mounting locationthat is as cool as possible and away from heat sources. This will help the compressor run cooler and last longer.



• Always install compressor higher than the air reservoir tanks intake port to keep moisture from leaking into compressor's head.



• Low voltage supply causes amp spikes, which can damage your compressor's motor.



• Avoid mounting compressors directly behind the rear tyres of a vehicle where dirt and moisture are most likely to gather.



• Always use a pressure switch that will shut off the compressor at or before the maximum working pressure. Never use adjustable pressure switches; they will allow your compressor to exceed its maximum working pressure.



• Make sure that you engine is running while you are running your air compressors. To ensure your air compressors are getting enough supply voltage.



• Compressors should be mounted as close as possible to the battery to keep the positive wire as short as possible and amp draw to a minimum.



• Safety Valve pop-off valve pressure should be at 25 psi higher that the cut off pressure of your switch. Safety valves will begin to bleed up to 15 psi below safety valves rated pressure.



• Install a drain cock to remove excess condensation from your air tank and drain regularly.



• Always use an inline fuse when routing power to the compressor from a 12-volt power source.



• If your compressor or onboard air system is leaking air, check for leaks by spraying a solution of soap and water onto fitting connections and look for bubbles that grow from the connections.



• Always take advantage of the Remote Intake Filter Assembly if it is made available with your compressor. Route the Intake Filter remotely to ensure your compressor draws in clean, dry and cool air.



• If you are running an airtank, do not use a hose with open-ended chuck. Only coil hoses with close-ended tyre chuck will maintain tank pressure.



• Always use a pressure switch if your onboard air system includes an air reservoir tank.



• We recommend using a maximum five-gallon air tank with each Viair compressor. Larger tank volumes require multiple compressors to maintain performance.
